Friends of Mekong Quilts (Aus) Inc
We are an Australian registered charity located on the Sunshine Coast in Qld. Through a partnership with Vietnamese NGO, Thien Chi, we support projects aimed at breaking the cycle of poverty for families living in rural communities. A high priority of support is given to education and employment creation projects.
Our history
After volunteering in Vietnam with Thiên Chí as a Fundraising Trainer for 12 months in 2013, Sandra Robinson was overwhelmed by the level of poverty still existing in some of the rural communities in Vietnam. Thiên Chí and it's dedicated team of local staff were making a huge contribution in raising the standard of living in the rural communities of Binh Thuận Province. To assist Mekong Quilts (a non profit social enterprise supported by Thiên Chí) establish a marketplace in Australia, Sandra assisted in establishing this not-for profit organisation to help carry on this grassroots community work.
Friends of Mekong Quilts (Aus) Inc was established in April 2020 on the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, as an Australian not for profit organisation to provide much needed ongoing support for Mekong Quilts and Thiên Chí. Registration as an Australian Charity (Public Benevolent Institution) was approved by the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission, effective from 16 May 2020.

Employment Creation
Mekong Quilts is a social enterprise created to provide employment for women in rural communities.
Special Education Scholarships
$250 annually can support a vulnerable family to keep a child at school to complete their education.
Education can be life changing!
Micro Finance
Small interest free loans provide families with capital to implement a family business model.
Training, support and follow up ensure this project has excellent results in breaking the cycle of poverty.
